FAMILY LITERACY IS FOR YOU! – Family Literacy is available for all of our families free of charge. There are four components of the program. 1. Adult Education, 2. Children’s Education, 3. Parent and Child Time, 4. Parent Time. We will have activities for the family at Thorn Hill and will also let you know of activities occurring at the Paul Sawyier Public Library, the Franklin County Cooperative Extension Office, 4-H Club, Yes Arts, and more. This program is new to Thorn Hill and more information will be shared on this website as we evolve.
Why should you participate in Family Literacy? Family Literacy plays a crucial role in shaping children’s learning experiences and fostering a strong foundation for their future. Let’s explore some of the benefits:
- Higher Reading Knowledge and Skills: Children exposed to a rich literacy environment.
- Early Reading Success of families telling stories and reading together.
- Brain Development: By the age of three, the child’s brain has reached 80% of its adult size. Developmental experiences during these years significantly influences brain development.
- Parent-Child Bonding: Literacy Activities strengthens relationships between family members.
- Parent Literacy leads to economic self-sufficiency and meets adults’ stated goals.
- Family Literacy education assists parents in facilitating children’s learning and becoming partners in their child’s education.
